TBS Teaching Staff
2023, French Guiana
The Tropical Bioacoustics School brings together a team of scientists specializing in bioacoustics and ecoacoustics. The composition of the team may change according to the theme and location of the TBS.
NICOLAS MATHEVON
TBS Director
Professor at the University of Saint-Etienne, senior member of the Institut universitaire de France, Associate Director of Studies at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes. Nicolas' research focuses on the coding and decoding of information in the sound signals of various vertebrates (crocodiles, birds, mammals).
JAKOB CHRISTENSEN-DALSGAARD
TBS 2023, 2025
Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark, Jakob's main interest is the function and evolution of the middle ear and directional hearing, mainly in reptiles, amphibians and birds.
NICOLAS GRIMAULT
TBS 2023, 2025
Research Director at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Nicolas is a psycho-acoustician who explores the perceptual abilities of humans and non-human animals (crocodiles, hippos).
OLE LARSEN
TBS 2023, 2025
Professor Emeritus at the University of Southern Denmark, Ole studies different aspects of acoustic communication in a variety of experimental animals (parrots, underwater hearing in diving birds, sound production in birds, sound propagation, etc).
JEREMY ROUCH
TBS 2023, 2025
A Research Engineer at ENES, Jeremy is an experienced acoustician with field experience in bioacoustics and ecoacoustics (species monitoring, soundscapes).
JEROME SUEUR
TBS 2023
Professor at the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle (MNHN), Jerome leads a research team in ecoacoustics. He has written R package for the analysis of soundscapes.
FREDERIC SEBE
TBS 2023
Senior scientist at the Office Français de la Biodiversité, Adjunct Researcher at the ENES Bioacoustics Research Lab (University of Saint-Etienne). Fred's research aims at using the acoustic signals of animals and soundscapes to monitor species and ecosystems.
PIERRE-MICHEL FORGET
TBS 2023
Professor at the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. PIM (as he's called) is a tropical ecologist who knows everything about the rainforest ecosystem. His research focuses on the ecology of rainforests and conservation of mammals and birds that contribute to their diversity.
JENNIFER DEVILLE-CHABROLLE
Director of the Nouragues Natural Reserve
GUILLAUME DELAITRE
Nature guide
